The beach at Thousand Hills State Park is a great way to relax and keep fit by swimming in the lake. Thousand Hills State Park also offers a variety of boat rentals including, paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, fishing boats and pontoons. The park has beautiful scenery and miles of trails for walking and biking to enjoy.
- Rotary Park
Rotary Park here in Kirksville offers disk golf for all ages. What is disk golf you ask?It is a mixture of frisbee and golf. There are 9 holes in which one throws a frisbee toward a set target. Players record their scores and compare how well they did at the end of the course. Disk golf provides fun and exercise and all you need is one frisbee.

Each year, the University’s Homecoming activities includes the Annual Bulldog Forever 5K Run/Walk.
- NEMO Triathlon
Whether you have been training for a triathlon or not, the NEMO triathlon provides opportunities for anyone to get outdoors and get active. Participants run 5 miles, swim .75 of a mile, and bike 18 miles. Even if you really do not want to participate in a triathlon, you can volunteer to help with the event or simply watch the contestants compete at the beautiful Thousand Hills State Park.
- Red Barn Arts & Crafts Festival
Enjoy great food, fun, crafts, and sites at the annual Red Barn Art & Crafts Festival. This event attracts almost 10,000 people from across the country. Rain or shine, come enjoy some entertainment, old-fashioned kettle corn, and homemade arts & crafts.
- F*L*A*T*S Trail Half Marathon
The Forest Lake Area Trail System (FLATS) was developed in 2009 as an all-volunteer community organization that provides support for the development, use, and maintenance of trails here in Adair County. This half marathon is a fundraiser for the development of a 4-mile trail that will connect the City of Kirksville to Thousand Hills State Park.
- Round Barn Blues
Round Barn Blues is a bi-annual event held here in Kirksville. Artists from all over the country come to play live music at the historic barn that is on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy some delicious BBQ, refreshments, and great entertainment.
